Our Budding Bilingual Inquirers’ First Try at the Inquiry Cycle.
This is Anne Sibaruten, and I am excited to share with you the great joint effort of the parents and 1st graders, as the latter present their UOI summer project this term.
After a month of summer holiday, the 1st grade students return with a renewed enthusiasm towards learning as they rehearse their summer UOI project presentation right on their first day back to school.
Prior to the summer vacation, the students chose varied topics ranging from personal interests and hobbies to ones concerning pressing social issues. With the help of their parents and other family members, they productively used their time off school to have their first try at the inquiry cycle this summer. Their thinking, research and communication skills were put to the test as they formulated hypotheses, conducted experiments, extensively read various written resource materials and interviewed resource experts from all around the country. The students were also encouraged to summarize the results of their inquiries in English.
Students will share their UOI summer project to other PYP students next Friday, September 13th. The teachers, parents and other students greatly anticipate the promising beginnings of our budding bilingual Inquirers.
