Grade 4 Music Class- Let’s learn and sing English songs!
Hello, my name is Jenny and I am from Australia. I am the Assistant Language Teacher for Grade 4 Music classes.
For the past few weeks, Grade 4 students have been working on a song called ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ by One Direction focusing on Melody as our Key Word.
They studied the lyrics, developing new vocabulary by learning the meaning of the new words.
They have also focused on pronunciation with me!
Students guessed the story behind the song with drawings, facilitating their creativity as they were using their imaginations to reflect on the lyrics. Hence, they were slowly building their knowledge and understanding of the song.
As students were learning English with music and visualizations, they were more engaged leading to effective learning!
They started presenting the song in groups in front of the class, and some students even
memorized the lyrics demonstrating great Reflective skills. Students also worked harmoniously with their group members as Communicators while Caring for each other, working on their Social skills.
After the presentation, students reflected on their individual performance and completed the self-reflection sheet. From the selection of Volume, Tone, and Posture, they were to choose the one they think they did the best and score themselves out of 5. Furthermore, they also demonstrated an attribute to an Inquirer by thinking about what they can do better next time in their presentation. We were really glad to see their progress and it was very noticeable that they were improving each week．
